BreedMyDog is pleased to update recent pregnancy success on the dogs that have visited the Unit.
Here’s the most recent confirmed pregnancy from Ruby . This bitch came for her pregnancy scan at BreedMyDog yesterday , 15th July 2013.-
Pregnancy Scan 15 July 2013
Scan shows a 5 week old fetus in a labrador bitch pregnancy scan. The bladder is also visible
Ultrasound Scans confirmed a healthy 5 week pregnancy. Pedigree Labrador, Ruby , had never successfully fallen pregnant previously, despite several attempts at breeding.
But with blood progesterone monitoring and pre-mating checks on the bitch we sought the optimal time for mating. The Owner and breeder of Champion stud male , Zephyr, also visited the Unit for testing and we are pleased Ruby is expecting puppies early August.
Ruby was sampled by her home Vet . Her blood progesterone on 31 May was 2.3 nmol/litre. This level is well below ovulation.
A further sample recorded progesterone levels of “32 – 64″ nmol/l on 4th June. It was essential Ruby visited the Unit as soon as possible . We calculated she had probably ovulated at least 24 hours before, on 3rd June.
Optimal breeding is at 48 – 72 hours post ovulation in this case.
Mating took place just once on 6th July . which is quite late in this time period.
A positive outcome , we await a calm delivery!
Puppies are due in a variety of other breeds and, pleasingly, frozen semen recently exported to the States has resulted in a confirmed pregnancy by Trans-Cervical Insemination for a Stafford breeder with birthing again due in August 2013.
